The hard working folks at NYU School of Medicine's Center For AIDS Research decided it was time to update their popular online resource HIVInfoSource.org. Being the dedicated staff they are, they wanted to develop the site in house, allowing them to gain more control of the site, and to learn for themselves how to update and expand the site in the future.
They were lucky to have a staff member with web development experience, but they wanted to make sure it was done right, and that they didn't waste valuable staff time. That's why they called in Visible Shops. Throughout the project, Visible Shops worked with the group running the project at the Center For AIDS Research to refine design elements, support programming efforts, and ultimately increase the usability and visibility of the site.
To accomplish these goals Visible Shops set up a direct connection between their developer and our production coordinator. It was of the utmost importance that the site work well in the major web browsers and be easy to navigate. HIVInfoSource is a major online source of information about HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections. To make sure this resource met expectations, Visible Shops consulted on design issues to ensure consistency throughout the site, including developing CSS standards that could be used as the site expands.
Additionally, making the site more visible online was key. Visible Shops guided the team at NYU through making the site Search Engine Optimized. Because SEO is a lengthy process, Visible Shops worked on teaching the staff the basics of SEO as well as interpreting the website's usage statistics and using that information to further improve search engine rankings.
